Japanese Beetles aka Pretty Green Demons

My yard is full of all sorts of flowers. I plant a few new ones each year and after 13 years the yard is pretty much full of them. Enter the tiny green destroyer....

Japanese Beetles. They start with the blooms. Then they eat the leaves. Left unchecked they will even eat the stalks after decimating everything else. There are those plants and flowers the beetles do not touch like Tiger Lilies.

I tried a homemade trap from an organic website a friend gave me the link to. Easy to make. It did not work. It only attracted moths and butterflies. The things I do not want to kill. The beetles did not go anywhere near it. I used a commercial trap last year and it worked great. Will be going into town tomorrow and get me another one. If you do use the commercial ones just remember to keep it at least 50 yards from your gardens or else you will just attract more of these damn destructive bugs.

Working my way back

I realized this morning that it was 4 weeks ago today the last time I touched clay. My last remaining snail sold last night to a wonderful repeat customer who asked me to open my etsy shop long enough for her to grab it. Today I am going to make eyeballs and armatures for new ones. I am planning to reopen my shop on July 14th.
My husband still has a long recovery ahead of him. Massive blood loss lead to nerve damage. He will not be going back to work until mid September. We both want to thank everyone for the cards, texts and messages from all over the world. We feel very blessed and loved. Thank you all so very much!

Playing with plastic

I came across a tutorial for making sun catchers from plastic beads on Pinterest. It was really easy to do! I used 5" disposable aluminum pie tins. You use plastic beads (I used pony beads) layer them in a mold and put in a 400ยบ oven for 20 minutes. If you do this make sure to have all of the windows open. It stinks as they are melting but the aroma goes away quickly once it cools. I just turned off the oven and left the door closed until they cooled off. They pop right out of the tin without any effort. Do not worry about the beads having holes because when they melt the holes fill in. I want to get some heart shaped molds, either aluminum or silicon and make hearts to hang in my kitchen window.

Where I am

I am not going to go into any details here but wanted to let you know why I have been absent. My husband has been in intensive care in the hospital since Tuesday the 29th. Until he is released my shop will be closed and there will not be any new posts here. Just wanted to let people know so they do not think I simply disappeared. I do try to check my email every evening if you need me. See you after all of this is over and he gets to come home.
