Happy Birthday George!

Today my sweet baby turned 13 years old. That is extremely elderly for a Great Dane. He has lived with us since he was 2½ weeks old. He was a rescue. Even his vet cannot believe he is still hanging around because big dogs this size don't usually live this long.... just wished him Happy Birthday. We love him very much.

Camping Snail

This has been a very fun project for me. First time I ever worked with LED's and it will not be my last. The battery for the LED fire is hidden in a drawer underneath the display.

Mobile Community

Sometimes a fairy just gets tired of the weather. Sometimes she wants a change of scenery. Sometimes she just wants to take a vacation without leaving the comforts of home. This snail powered mobile community is just the place for her. Right now she is crossing the ocean to her new location in Hong Kong.

The Grease Monkey

Working on engines is not just this snail's job it is a passion that is in his blood. If he is not in his shop you can find him under the hood beneath the shade of a toadstool in his yard.

Holder for sharp tools

I got the idea for this sharp tool holder from a blog post pinned on Pinterest. I thought the original idea was brilliant but I needed mine to be long and narrow so as to take up less space on my work table.
I took the same cardboard and idea but did not use a jar. I glued my cardboard together with a hot glue gun just on the bottom edge. Then I put a ribbon and button on it just to make it pretty. I have a few more things to put in it. For now it has scalpels, xacto knives, needle tools and quilling tools. I love that the blades are no longer resting in the bottom of jars. My version....

Changing the bulb in a Lisa Pavelka uv lamp

Lisa Pavelka's uv lamp is one of my favorite tools and I use it quite often. I bought it on her website a while back and also ordered replacement bulbs. Today I needed to change the bulb for the first time. There are no directions anywhere to do this unless it came with the lamp. But I bought it so long ago it is possible they got thrown away. I wish I had taken step-by-step photos in case anyone needs them. I may do that later if requested.

 photo tool_zpsebf70181.jpg

After trying to pull out the bulb and fearing breaking it, I am a free bleeder and live miles from a hospital so have to be careful of such things, I searched google. Found no directions. Almost went to facebook to ask artist friends but before I did I noticed that the little black feet on the bottom had tiny tabs. I pulled one out of its hole and discovered a screw underneath. Aha! Remove the 4 feet and screws. Next carefully pull off the bottom. There are 4 screws inside to remove. Then it comes apart so that you can safely remove the bulb and insert a new one. It is simple to do but decided to put it here in case anyone else needed the information.

miniature rose bush

I am still working on custom snails but decided not to show them until they are shipped. This is because the last 3 I showed have had requested changes made to them. During the day I work on my snails. At night I work on miniatures. This is a work in progress that is not quite completed. I am making this rose bush display to give to my mother in law. Her father was a gardener and he specialized in grafting roses.

I decided tonight that I am going to stop using flickr. It is too hard to for me find where anything is there anymore. There is a link to my ipernity photo account at the top of the page under my banner. It looks more like flickr used to look. I started uploading to ipernity last month when one of my customers told me flickr loaded too slow for her and she was trying to look at some of my past works.

Miniature flowers

I am making miniature flowers to go with snails, my dollhouse, gifts, etc. This 1:6 playscale cactus is for my mom. She has hundreds of the real life version in both red and pink....

Meanwhile here is a shot of one of my peony blooms. There are lots more of this Spring's flowers in my garden on flicker. There is a link up top just below my banner if you want to see.

Work Table Wednesday it is great to be back

After almost 4 months of being sick and then relocating my studio it feels so good to get back to sculpting again! On my work table, not yet cured...

 photo worktableWednesday-6_zps6d03b929.jpg

I am back to doing what I love best, creating. There are lots of ideas on my to-make list, including bashing a dollhouse kit. To "bash" a kit means to alter it in some way. I plan on adding an addition among other things. I have never had a dollhouse even though I have always made miniatures. Needless to say I have never built one before. Along with it I'll be making lots of miniatures but not just for it. Of course lots more snails are on my list too. I have been writing down ideas for months waiting for the day to come when I could play again. I am so happy that it is here now!

New shelves for my studio

I am in the process of moving my studio from a huge room upstairs to a smaller room downstairs. This is happening because I am about to build a dollhouse and there is no way I want to try to move that down the steep stairs in this house. Kept looking for shelves that are not deep to put small supplies like paints and jars of doo-dads. Never could find one that would work for me so I designed my own. My husband volunteered to help without my asking. He has always been supportive of my art. It is a wonderful thing.
Today while he was at work I primed, painted and attached cork tiles and hooks. Now I just need to bring it in the house and install it on the wall. It is 54" long and 4" deep. I love it!

Miniature Snail

If you have seen my ColtPixy Miniatures site you will know how much I love miniature things. This is my smallest snail to date. I made him today.

I am in the process of moving my studio from upstairs to a room downstairs and have a long list of projects I want to start on once it is completed. It feels good to be creating again.

Keeping up with blogs

I have several interests, art, crafts, gardening, cooking, home improvement, etc. So I follow a great number of blogs. For years I have used Google Reader to read all of them. One click and I can go to the blog and reply if necessary. If the blog has a google friend connect widget I would click follow on it and that blog would automatically be added to the Reader. If not a blogger blog I could just add the URL to the reader to add it.

Now Google has announced that it is doing away with Google Reader soon so I searched for a good alternative. Thankfully with the help of a friend I found one, Feedly. It pulled all of the blogs from my Google Reader for me and now I don't have to worry about how to keep track of new posts anymore. I just click the tiny green icon on my Firefox browser to see new posts. There are phone apps too. It is different but easy to learn and navigate.
I am no longer sure what the purpose the google friend connect widget is for me anymore.

I do wonder if the next thing Google gets rid of will be blogger. If that happens I already know of alternatives and will simply move my two blogs. At least now this worry is over for me. If, like me, you were searching for an alternative reader there are options out there. I'm glad to have found one before the reader was shut down and I lost all of those blogs I want to keep reading.

Full circle

Throughout my life one medium has lead to another. Recent events, which have kept me from being as active as I usually am online have caused the need of a medium more portable than clay. Now that things start to be settling down I am getting back to clay but plan to continue with my first love, painting, drawing and pen and ink. It is all connected to some extent since I normally do rough sketches of anything I make with clay.
I am looking forward to life getting back to normal and excited to being able to create things once again.

Snail pendant by Bewitching Dreams

In 2012 I completed 132 snail sculptures. Friends began lovingly, jokingly calling me the Snail Lady. :)
Look what one of those friends made for me recently, a precious little snail pendant. It is my new lucky charm. I adore it.

Bird pendant by Deronda

I have not made anything new in a while because of some medical issues. I have also woefully neglected this blog as a result of those issues. I am a little better so figured I should start with the blog. I recently received 4 beautiful things from 2 very sweet friends. Here is one of them....
